ARTIST STATEMENT

This animation is inspired by the theatrical energy of Disney’s Let’s Get Wicked [stage show] and experimental techniques from Barry Rooney’s Breaking Animation Rules workshop. The piece merges exaggerated character movement with unconventional timing and physics, featuring the Joker rig to amplify chaotic, expressive motion. Key poses were blocked in Maya, emphasising silhouette strength and timing. Polishing involved refining curves, arcs and secondary actions like hair and cloth follow-through to enhance fluidity. Challenges included aligning quick dance beats, solved by importing reference footage for precise timing and balancing "breaking rules" techniques without compromising smoothness.
