Artist statement

Rebirth is a soft pastel and ink drawing that depicts the decomposition of a past self simultaneously giving birth to a present self. The figures, illustrated using self-portraiture, symbolise my own stages of self-transformation in an exchange of death and life. Integrating refined representations with figurative layers of biomorphic mark-making demonstrates the energetic push and pull of this narrative, which ultimately explores the dynamic nature of selfhood and the multiplicity of one’s identity.
