Artist statement

Hospital makes a link between material entropy and the incoherence of image archives over time. The work makes use of images from magazines, adverts, and iPhone albums, an amalgamation of mass and personal media that saturates real experience. The work seeks to damage this facade through drawing, transferring and distressing these images, techniques which emulate the ‘natural’ deterioration of found objects. A link is made between material loss of integrity and symbolic disarray, questioning if our image worlds, as phantom constructions, can ever have expiration dates.
