Artist statement

My practice incorporates drawing from life, observing the people and places around me and capturing everyday activities and mundane moments of stillness. Moment brings together fine-line ink drawings of human bodies across multiple panels, layered over a mixed-media background of plant life that connects each panel to the next.

The work was inspired by the anthropocentric tendency to position ourselves above other beings, as though human life exists apart from the wider ecosystem. Rather than reinforcing this hierarchy, Moment acts as a gentle reminder for empathy, highlighting the interconnectedness of individuals. Playing with two simultaneous perspectives, I overlay individual figures with plant forms, subtly placing the human body back within the complex and entangled ecosystem of life.
