Riverina Teaching Hub Program

Be career ready as a secondary school teacher in a program initiative that lets you work in your chosen field while studying.

Welcome

In partnership with the University of New South Wales Sydney and NSW Department of Education, this Initial Teacher Education Pathway gives high school leavers and career changers the opportunity to work in a NSW public school in the Riverina region of NSW while studying for their UNSW degree.

The Program

  • Obtain your teaching qualification with UNSW locally in the Riverina;
  • Work part-time as a para-professional secondary school teacher in a Riverina local public school;
  • Receive a $7,500 yearly training allowance;
  • Be supported by a Department of Education and UNSW Riverina Teaching Hub Coordinator and mentoring from a supervising teacher;
  • Offer of a permanent position in a NSW public school within the Riverina upon completion of degree.

Postgraduate degree 

Postgraduate degree study load – 1.3 years full time

Expression of Interest

Submissions open 7 August 2023

From 7 August 2023 we are accepting Expression of Interest submissions for the 2024 cohort. Submit your interest by email to fas.educ.riverinahub@unsw.edu.au. 

In your Expression of Interest please indicate the following:

  1. Your name;
  2. The eligible undergraduate or postgraduate degree you wish to pursue under the program;
  3. Your school if you are a current school leaver studying Year 12 in 2023 OR your completed educational qualifications including any university courses completed;
  4. Your contact information.

Once your Expression of Interest submission has been received the UNSW Riverina Teaching Hub shall make contact to explain the next steps.

Applicants prior to 7 August 2023

Applicants will need to follow 2 or 3 steps to apply for the Riverina Teaching Hub Program

  1. Apply with the Department of Education on I Work for NSW
  2. Apply with UAC
    This step only applies to:
    a) School Leavers from non-Riverina high schools
    b) Post-school undergraduate applicants
  3. Apply direct to UNSW
    This step only applies to:
    a)  School Leavers from Riverina high schools
    b) School Leavers from non-Riverina high schools who wish to pursue a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education
    c) Post-school applicants  who wish to pursue a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education
    d) Postgraduate applicants

  • Apply through the I Work for NSW

  • Apply through the UNSW Gateway Admission Pathway

  • Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education (Secondary)
    Apply through the UNSW Portfolio Entry Early Conditional Offer Scheme*
