The 2023 Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) Staff Excellence Awards ceremony was held on Friday, 16 June 2023 at the Range Function Centre in Wagga Wagga. An annual event celebrating the achievements of staff and volunteers across the District, winners were announced during a gala dinner attended by Associate Professor Rashid Hashmi, Director of Medical Education, at Wagga’s UNSW Rural Clinical Campus. UNSW was a recipient of an award on the evening.
The Single Employer Model program, which is a joint initiative by the UNSW Murrumbidgee Regional Training Hub and the MLHD was awarded the Chief Executive Award at the MLHD Awards Night. This program, developed by Hub Director A/Prof Paul Mara and in collaboration with other Hub staff, campus staff and the MLHD, is nationally recognised as an inspirational initiative, designed to ensure that our regional and rural communities are supported by the medical practitioners they need. It is a wonderful example of what collaboration between UNSW and our LHD’s can achieve. This initiative is now rolled out in all states and territories. Congratulations to Dr John Currie, recently retired Hub Director, and Dr John Preddy, Conjoint Associate Professor, for their involvement in developing this program.
The MLHD Schools training program received an award at the ceremony. UNSW Wagga’s Rural Clinical Campus has been associated with the induction day of this program by providing a simulation session to participants. Lecturer, Senior Clinical Skills and Simulation Educator, Michael Maw is to be congratulated for his contribution.
The event was sponsored by UNSW and Murrumbidgee Regional Training Hub.
