A musical theatre-style performance about the perils of 'black magic' is one of the pieces being performed by UNSW dance students this week.

The mid-year show, Move 09, is an opportunity to see what Dance Education students from across the four years of the program learn in their studies.

Described as a cautionary tale about voodoo, Matilda is performed by the some of the first and second year students. "It's light-hearted nonsense in the style of musical theatre," says John Mullins, the Dance Education Program co-ordinator in the School of English Media and Performing Arts.

In addition to Matilda and the performance of classwork, Move 09 will feature a piece called From Here to There, directed by renowned choreographer Sue Healey. The work was choreographed in collaboration with some dancers from years three and four.

Matilda will also tour some regional dance festivals in the next few weeks.

Graduates of the UNSW Dance Education Program are now highly represented as teachers of dance in secondary schools in NSW.
