UNSW is joining hundreds of venues around Australia to host events to mark Anti-Poverty Week (16-22 October), aimed at helping the world's poorest and most disadvantaged.
The week highlights poverty and hardship, especially in the poorest countries but also in wealthier countries such as Australia. It aims to encourage as many people as possible to publicly express their interest and concern.
The Week was initiated by the Social Justice Project at UNSW in 2001 and now involves more than 400 activities each year around Australia.
Students, clubs and organisations have planned activities to raise awareness of the causes and consequences of poverty to encourage action.
Prominent Australian and International NGO's including Oxfam and Amnesty International will be hosting events on campus alongside UNSW clubs and associations who will be organizing talks, film-screenings, information stalls and fundraisers.
