Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull has launched the UNSW Chancellor’s book I gave a Gonski: Selected Speeches.

UNSW hosted the event at the CBD campus, which was attended by around 170 people from business, arts, education and philanthropic circles, including actress Cate Blanchett, ANZ Banking Group chief Mike Smith, ABC chairman Jim Spigelman, tech investor Daniel Petre, Transfield managing director Guido Belgiono-Nettis and philanthropists Gene and Brian Sherman.

In the book of previously unpublished speeches, David Gonski reveals what drove a son of Polish/South African immigrants to the highest echelons of public life as one of the country's leading businessmen and philanthropists.

All of the royalties from the sale of the book are being donated to the University, to be distributed to the ASPIRE program, which helps thousands of disadvantaged school children consider higher education. The UNSW Foundation is also working with ASPIRE on a fundraising initiative.
