UNSW welcomes announcement of Minister for Cities and the Built Environment

UNSW’s Faculty of Built Environment congratulates Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull for emphasising the importance of the design, delivery and management of cities to Australia in his cabinet.   Mr Turnbull has appointed Jamie Briggs as the first Minister for Cities and the Built Environment.   “Renewed focus on cities and infrastructure is a very welcome change and the faculty commends Malcolm Turnbull on this decision,” says UNSW Built Environment Dean Professor Alec Tzannes AM.   “UNSW’s focus has always been to lead the nation on sustainable and innovative urbanism. Our aim is to advance the understanding of Australia’s cities, their people, the policies that manage their growth, their design and impact on our environment and economy.”    “We look forward to this very important new focus by government and industry on cities and our role in research and education to support the nation's future endeavours,” Professor Tzannes concluded.   The Cooperative Research Centre for Low Carbon Living based at UNSW has also welcomed Minister Briggs’ appointment.
