UNSW Law has risen two places to 13th in the 2016 QS rankings, joining Accounting and Finance as the University's top ranked subjects. In its best result to date, UNSW now has 21 subjects in the world’s top 50.

Rounding out UNSW’s six subjects in the top 20 are Civil and Structural Engineering at 16, the highest ranked Australian university, Mineral and Mining Engineering and Psychology (also 16), and Architecture and Built Environment (19), which has moved into the top 20 for the first time. For the full list of UNSW results, go to the QS website.

Once again, every subject area within Engineering and Technology is ranked in the world’s top 50. UNSW is the number one university in Australia for Materials Science at 33.

Also in the top 50 is a new subject area, Social Policy and Administration (38). 

Now in their sixth year, the QS World University Rankings by Subject are based on the expert opinion of 76,798 academics and 44,426 employers, alongside the analysis of 28.5 million research papers and over 113 million citations sourced from the Scopus/Elsevier bibliometric database.

Australia is the third best global performer in the rankings. Monash University has the country's highest ranked subject -  pharmacy and pharmacology (4). Harvard and MIT shared the rankings' top spot.
