Programs that help Defence Force personnel to move into civilian employment after completing their service were recognised this week.
The outstanding work by two UNSW Canberra alumni and associated businesses was recognised at the Prime Minister’s Veterans’ Employment Awards this week.
Mr Ben Whitham from Penten Pty Ltd was the winner of the Veteran Entrepreneur of the Year, whilst BCT Solutions took home the Veterans' Employer of the Year – Medium award and Outstanding Employer of the Year.
UNSW Canberra Rector, Michael Frater, congratulated Mr Whitman and BCT Solutions on the outstanding achievements.
“Both companies are to be commended for their successes and their ongoing work for our veterans.”
General Manager BCT Solutions, David French, said that winning the PM’s veterans employment award was a great recognition and validation of the team and their approach to their work and life.
“We understand that with this recognition comes a responsibility to promote the positive benefits of employing veterans and we will be doing our best to lead that conversation.
“Participating in the UNSW Canberra mentoring program is just one of the ways we will look to support veterans transitioning into the civilian workforce,” he said.
The awards recognise and celebrate Australian businesses that support and employ veterans and ADF spouses, as well as veterans who are making significant contributions to their workplace.
Each year, around 6000 people leave the ADF and these businesses are working to ensure that ADF members can transition to civilian life and find meaningful and sustainable employment.
The Awards are part of the Prime Minister's Veterans' Employment Program which was launched in November 2016 to raise awareness of the extensive talents of our veterans and to encourage the private sector to take advantage of this expertise.
