A new campus subscription agreement provides students and staff access to a national, metropolitan, regional and local reporting network.

UNSW Sydney and News Corp Australia have announced a subscription agreement, offering students and staff full digital access to The Australian and The Daily Telegraph.

The deal allows students and staff to sign up for unlimited access to News Corp Australia digital titles, delivered through websites, apps, podcasts, newsletters and the digital newspaper edition.

Subscribers can stay up to date with breaking news and reporting from Sydney, across Australia and around the world, on desktop and mobile or through apps.

UNSW Vice-President, Societal Impact, Equity and Engagement, Professor Verity Firth AM, said the agreement would help all UNSW students and staff to stay informed.

“At a time when trust in information is being challenged, access to quality journalism has never been more important. It enables us to stay informed, understand different perspectives, and engage thoughtfully with the issues shaping our communities and society,” Prof. Firth said.

“That's why I'm delighted that our students and staff now have free access to News Corp Australia's publications. Whether you're exploring developments in your field, following current affairs, or simply seeking to better understand the world around you, this is a valuable resource for our university community.”

The agreement includes full access to NewsLocal providing the latest news across Sydney, the Hunter and other NSW communities. Subscribers can also access News Corp Australia’s other metropolitan and regional titles including The Herald Sun, The Courier-Mail, The Advertiser, The Mercury, NT News, Geelong Advertiser, Cairns Post, Gold Coast Bulletin and Townsville Bulletin.

The Australian’s Editor-in-Chief Michelle Gunn said that empowering the next generation through trusted journalism helped students understand the issues shaping life in Australia and beyond.

“‘Welcome to the Contest of Ideas’ is our mission statement, inviting UNSW students and educators to challenge orthodoxies, ask hard questions and engage with our reporting across politics, business, technology, health, wealth and culture,” she said.

“Through The Australian, they’ll be able to read, watch and listen to our breaking news, analysis and rich, immersive storytelling that helps them make sense of the world.”

The News Corp Australia deal complements UNSW's existing access to other major news providers, including The Sydney Morning Herald, which was announced earlier this year.

UNSW students and staff can register to activate a subscription.
