Jonathan van Leeuwen

Jonathan is a Masters Student at the CCRC, studying the relationship between flash drought and bushfire in Australia with Abhirup Dikshit and Jason Evans. On peaceful afternoons, Jonathan can also be found tending gardens, tinkering in garages, making music and drinking tea.

Project Title: Linking flash drought and bushfires in Australia

Project Description: An analysis of flash droughts (often characterised by sudden onset, rapid intensification and/or short duration in comparison to conventional drought) and their impacts on bushfire risk in Australia. This project aims to further understanding of, and quantify relationships between the phenomena, which will contribute toward efforts in reduction of bushfire- and drought-related risks to Australian communities, agriculture and ecosystems.
