Dr Georgette Fleming
Dr. Georgette (Georgie) Fleming (she/her) is a Lecturer in the School of Psychology at UNSW. She completed her B. Arts (Psychology)(Honours) at the University of Sydney and her combined Ph.D./Master of Psychology (Clinical) at UNSW. Dr Fleming is a Clinical Psychologist, certified therapist and within-agency trainer in Parent-Child Interaction Therapist (PCIT), and a member of the PCIT International Research Taskforce.
Dr Fleming's program of research is concerned with improving the accessibility and efficacy of treatment for young children with conduct problems (e.g., non-compliance, temper tantrums, aggression). Her doctoral research focused on evaluating outcomes of Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) adapted to delivery via video teleconferencing (called Internet-delivered PCIT or iPCIT), while her current research focuses on evaluating outcomes of school-delivered PCIT with teacher involvement. Dr Fleming is passionate about understanding moderators and mechanisms of treatment-related change, with a particular focus on improving treatment outcomes for young children with elevated callous-unemotional (CU) traits (i.e., lack of guilt, lack of empathy, uncaring attitudes, and superficiality of emotions). She worked closely with Professor Eva Kimonis to evaluate a version of PCIT adapted for young children with CU traits, called PCIT-CU.
As a researching Clinical Psychologist, Dr Fleming strongly advocates for the use of scientific knowledge to inform clinical assessment, diagnosis, formulation, and treatment, and vice versa. She thoroughly enjoys training and supervising psychologists and psychology trainees in PCIT, parenting, child behaviour change, and process issues that arise when working with the family system.
