Dr Joanna Biazik-Richmond is a cell biologist specialising in electron microscopy (EM). Joanna graduated from the University of Sydney in 2008 with a PhD in Anatomy and Histology in 2008. Joanna worked as a Research Associate at the Australian Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis (2008-2011) and went on to become a Postdoctoral researcher at the University of Helsinki investigating autophagy in cells (2011-2018). In 2018, Joanna joined the University of New South Wales, where she manages an Electron Microscopy PC2 cell culture facility and offers support in collaborative projects ranging from nanoparticle uptake in cells, biocompatibility assays for materials and alloys, cellular agriculture as well as routine plant and mammalian cell biology. She specialises and teaches in a range of electron microscopy techniques including transmission and scanning electron microscopy, high pressure freezing, CLEM, Immuno EM and volume EM. Joanna has also developed a training module in cell culture providing hands-on training in aseptic technique to researchers across different schools and departments.
