Project description
GRID UNSW are very pleased to have completed the Australian field testing for the Michibiki QZSS (Quasi-Zenith Satellite System).
This satellite system is designed to enhance positioning, messaging and preparedness for bushfire, flood, earthquake and other hazards across Japan, Australia and the Asia-Pacific.
Our goal? To strengthen early warning capabilities and bring enhanced functionality to EWS systems across the Asia-Pacific region, creating a safer, more connected future.
We ran a series of simulation evacuation scenarios testing smartphones, smartwatches and specialized messaging software to assess the impact and efficiency of QZSS technology.
A major benefit of this system is that it provides a network independent of phone coverage, facilitating messaging and navigation during potentially disastrous events.
This initiative is a collaboration with Cabinet Office (Japan), Keio University, NTT Data, and Pasco, in coordination with NSW Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW Community Fire Units (CFUs).
