Have you failed the same course twice?

If you repeatedly and unsuccessfully attempt the same course or course rule, you should get academic advice at the earliest opportunity. There is support to help you improve your studies.

If you have failed the same course or course rule more than once, you will receive an email asking you to meet with an academic advisor. This will happen after the release of results at the end of the semester.

You should meet with your academic advisor no later than Week 3 of the following semester. Ideally, you should meet by the end of Week 1. You should not enrol in the course again until you have received academic advice. This will allow you to access the appropriate support services and resources you might need to prevent another failed attempt of the course or course rule.

What is a course rule?

A course rule treats certain courses as equivalent for meeting a specific program requirement. For example, if your program requires you to take Mathematics 1A OR Higher Mathematics 1A, either course will fulfill the same requirement under the rule.

Have you failed the same course three times or more?

If you fail the same course or course rule three times, you must seek advice from your Program Authority before you enrol again. Your Program Authority will discuss your suitability for your program and provide tailored advice to support your progress in the degree.

If you fail the same course or course rule four times, your enrolment in your program will be terminated. This means you will no longer be enrolled in, or allowed to complete, the degree. If this occurs, you have the right to appeal the termination through the Re-Enrolment Appeal Committee.

PW grades are not counted in the calculation of maximum repeat fails.
