Suitable for small, medium and large companies
The Industry Experience Program offers companies the opportunity to host a student for an internship placement at their Sydney based office. Students complete a minimum of 120 hours in placement over 10 weeks in Term 1,Term 2 & Term 3 or over 5 weeks during the Summer Term.
The students
The participating students are chosen from a competitive application process and will be in their second year of study (or above). They will come from a varied background including accounting, banking & finance, information systems, actuarial studies, marketing and economics.
Students choose this course as a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunity that gives them academic credit and workplace experience. Insurances are covered by UNSW Sydney for unpaid internships that take place on the industry hosts premises.
Host companies
The host company can be a local enterprise or a branch of a multinational corporation seeking to build a relationship with one of the region’s best business schools.
Requirements
Students complete a minimum of 120 hours within a business across the term
- The placement must be genuine and offer a learning experience to the student. The industry supervisor/mentor will regularly meet with the student to discuss progress and any challenges
- The industry supervisor is required to meet with the student once a week for a minimum of 30 minutes
- Organisations continue to monitor and adhere to Government guidelines on social distancing requirements and policy updates from UNSW.
The process
The project or internship placement will be advertised on a portal accessed only by students eligible for the course.
Students will apply with resume and cover letter to their preferred project or internship placement opportunity. We do not match students to companies.
Host companies can shortlist and select successful students, choose who to interview (face to face or online) and make the offer directly to the student. When the student accepts, they will provide the host company with the UNSW Core Terms Agreement to complete. This document is then uploaded onto Practera by the student, whereby they are then enrolled in the course and ready to begin with the company at the beginning of term.

Suitable for large organisations with 500+ employees
The UNSW Business School’s Industry Consulting Project (COMM2233) is an opportunity to connect and engage with high calibre students from Australia’s leading business school. The course places a cohort of 28 students to work on a project that is of genuine importance to the host company. Supported by a UNSW Academic and company mentor, students work in small teams to apply their strengths, insights and fresh perspectives to the business issue, presenting their findings in a pitch presentation at the end of the term.
The students
The participating students are selected undergraduate students currently studying at the UNSW Business School. They are chosen from a competitive application process that ensures their academic capacity. They will come from a varied background including accounting, banking & finance, information systems, actuarial studies, marketing and economics.
UNSW ensures adequate training on professional workplace behaviour and communication prior to commencement with the company. The students are supported by a UNSW Lecturer and course convenor.
Host companies
The Industry Consulting Project allows host companies to work with students early in the recruitment pipeline and observe a large group of potential hires with limited time and resource commitment. It also allows a host company to develop their own staff’s mentoring skills.
Host companies will:
- Provide a project, defined in consultation with UNSW Business School
- Identify 6-8 mentors, one for each student group (four-hour commitment over ten weeks plus attendance at the launch and presentation events)
- Host an in-company day at the beginning of the course (approximately three hours)
- Host a mid-term session for students to obtain additional information about the organisation (approximately one hour)
- Host a presentation session at the end of the course (approximately three hours)

Suitable for global organisations
UNSW Business School’s Global Business Practicum (GBP) is an opportunity for companies to connect and engage with high calibre students from Australia’s leading business school. The GBP runs annually in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Mumbai and Tel Aviv with undergraduate students and in Ho Chi Minh City with postgraduate students. The program is also expanding to cover more locations in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
The GBP provides host companies with access to students from multiple disciplines and backgrounds who can bring different insights to business problems. The program also enhances the brand awareness of host companies among students in the program as well as the wider UNSW cohort. The GBP aims to strengthen the work readiness of students and to equip them with professional skills that are adaptable to future changes in the professions.
The GBP places small groups of 3 to 5 students at host companies for a period of 10 working days to work on a genuine issue of importance to the host company. Students have the option to collaborate and conduct discussions with host companies virtually. The students combine their strengths, insights and fresh perspectives to provide a written report (1000 words) to your company and conduct a presentation of 30 to 60 minutes to summarise their findings.
The students
The participating students have been selected among high calibre candidates currently studying at the UNSW Business School. The program provides students with an opportunity to build up their professional networks and engage with organisations overseas, to enhance their global business knowledge and explore potential career paths.
The students are chosen from a competitive application process that ensures their academic capacity. They come from a varied background including accounting, banking & finance, information systems, actuarial studies, marketing and economics. UNSW ensures adequate training on professional workplace behaviour and communication prior to commencement with the host company.
Host companies
Host companies are asked to provide a genuine business project for each student consulting group, a designated supervisor and a suitable workplace for the placement duration (for in-country placements only). Logistics, including accommodation and insurance, are organised by the UNSW Business School. There is no financial cost to the host company.

Adaptive Futures was established in response to the fast-changing work environment that is intertwined with rapid technological advancement at the local and global levels. By expanding our reach and partnerships, Adaptive Futures is delivered fully online via a platform customised for online mentorship. The program provides an authentic and flexible work-integrated learning experience.
Adaptive Futures provides partner companies with access to students from multiple disciplines and backgrounds to undertake research into the future of work for their organisation. The students work in small groups and combine their strengths, insights and fresh perspectives to provide a written report and present their findings.
The students
The participating students are selected amongst the high calibre candidates currently studying at the UNSW Business School. They come from varied backgrounds including accounting, banking & finance, information systems, actuarial studies, marketing and economics. The program provides the students with an opportunity to be exposed to real world experiences with exposure to culturally diverse workplaces and actual business operations.
It aims to equip students with the relevant skills and knowledge to tackle the complexities of the future workforce, to be able to self-assess and learn how to adapt and upskill on the job.
To prepare the students for program, the UNSW Business School ensures adequate training on professional behaviour and communication for all students taking part in these programs.
Partner companies
Adaptive Futures is suitable for companies who are looking for fresh perspectives, to foster leadership skills in their current employees, and are keen to understand the workforce capabilities required to remain successful in the future. Partner companies can also use this opportunity to enhance their brand awareness among UNSW students in the program as well as to the wider cohort.
Partner companies are invited to provide a genuine business project for each student group and a designated mentor/supervisor. There is no financial cost to the participating partner company.

Suitable for start-ups
The UNSW Business School’s Enterprise Skills (COMM5008) is an opportunity to connect and engage with high calibre postgraduate students from Australia’s leading business school. Small groups of 2 - 4 students from different business majors are placed in host companies to work on a business project of importance to the organisation. The students combine their strengths, insight and fresh prospective to the project as they complete 70 hours on a project over a 10 week period.
The students
The participating students are predominately International Postgraduate students currently studying at the UNSW Business School. The students are looking to build their understanding of workplace contexts, cultures, recruitment practices and expectations through a practical workplace experience.
They are chosen from a competitive application process that ensures their academic capacity. They will have completed a minimum 6 months of their Postgraduate degree and undergone training on professional workplace behaviour and communication prior to commencement with the company.
Host companies
The host company can be a start-up or local enterprise seeking to build a relationship with one of the region’s best business schools. The company must be able to provide students the ability to complete
the project and are assigned a mentor that will provide them a minimum 30 mentor minutes per week (face-to-face, via video).
Upon completion of the project, mentors will be asked to complete a performance appraisal.
