Prior to commencing her Ph.D., Jie accumulated over four years of experience as a user experience designer and researcher at consulting firms, large internet companies, and special education schools in China and the UK. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Service Design from the University of the Arts London, achieving the highest marks for her graduation research project and receiving a Distinction degree. Her educational journey spans China, the UK, and Europe, and she boasts a diverse professional background in industrial design, service design, user experience design, art therapy, and special education. In 2022, she was a featured speaker at the Global Aging Forum and the Design the Future International Youth Festival, a collaborative event hosted by the London Design Festival and the University of the Arts London. Throughout this event, she actively participated in discussions with leading scholars regarding the future of aging and published research relevant to the topic.

Jie is currently conducting doctoral research in the field of gerontological technology design, focusing specifically on the design and enduring impact of smart home ecosystems on the sense of value, well-being, and autonomy of older adults. Her research interests encompass several areas, including "Sense of Value and Autonomy in Assistive Technology Design for Older Adults," "Friction between Older Adults and Smart Products," "Social Resilience of the Elderly Population," "Speculative Design and an Inclusive Society," and "Creative Participatory Design Theoretical Methods." She has extensive practical experience in participatory design methods, particularly in the realm of creative participatory art therapy for the elderly and children experiencing psychological trauma.
