Research

Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of central vision impairment in first-world countries. With an ageing global population, the early detection and management of developing AMD is paramount in combatting the disease.

The outer retina in non-exudative AMD is relatively well-described in the literature, however, emerging evidence suggests the inner retina may also be subject to a host of changes. Thus far, these changes are relatively poorly defined, particularly in regards to their spatial properties. Multimodal testing such as Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and Optical Coherence Angiography (OCTA) will help us to quantify these changes through unique, spatial clustering techniques. The aim is then to develop more accurate models of retinal biomarkers to produce an earlier diagnosis of non-exudative AMD.
