I am a Senior Research Fellow within the Surgical & Orthopaedic Research Laboratories (SORL) at UNSW. The majority of my research is focussed on industry-funded pre-clinical studies in which I am the Study Director. I have been a part of a team in which over 25 pre-clinical studies have been successful in achieving FDA 510K approval. My research focuses on the development and evaluation of biomaterials for surgical applications, particularly in orthopaedic, spinal, and soft tissue repair, release kinetics of antibiotics in bone void fillers aiming to enhance healing and reduce infection risks, fracture healing and the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis. My expertise also expands into corneal defects, flexor tendon repair, wound healing, sciatic nerve repair and the use of airborne particle reduction systems during surgical procedures to demonstrate reductions in airborne particles, thereby potentially improving surgical safety and infection reduction. My laboratory expertise includes radiography, image analysis, histological and immunohistochemical evaluation, and molecular biology. My expertise is widely recognised, collaborating with both local and international research groups on various research projects that relate to bone diseases and molecular biology. My primary focus is to have a collaborative approach and significantly contribute to the understanding of surgical and orthopaedic practices, particularly in the development and assessment of biomaterials and surgical techniques aimed at improving patient outcomes.
