Biography

Shouvik Das is a PhD candidate at UNSW’s School of Health Sciences and the Centre for Pain IMPACT at Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA). His research focuses on Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), with an interest in understanding its incidence, risk factors, underlying mechanisms and potential treatments. Shouvik completed a Bachelor of Clinical Science at Macquarie University, followed by a standalone Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Neuroscience and Applied Medical Sciences at the University of Sydney. Prior to commencing his PhD, he worked as a Research Assistant at NeuRA on clinical trials investigating low back pain. His broader research interests include chronic pain, neuroscience, clinical research and improving outcomes for people living with persistent pain.

Investigations into the Epidemiology, Risk Factors, and Treatment of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. 

Research abstract 

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is a debilitating pain condition that can develop following injury or surgery, yet it remains difficult to predict who will develop it and why. My research aims to improve our understanding of CRPS by investigating how commonly it occurs after limb injury or surgery, identifying factors that may increase a person’s risk of developing the condition, exploring potential biological mechanisms, and examining approaches to treatment. Through systematic reviews, meta-analyses and subsequent clinical research, this work aims to strengthen the evidence surrounding CRPS development and management, and ultimately support earlier identification, prevention and more effective treatment for people affected by the condition.
