I am a PhD candidate at UNSW Art & Design working across social design, interaction design, game studies, and family communication. Before beginning the PhD, I gained my master's degree of engineering in mechanical engineering at Zhejiang University, bachelor's degree of arts in digital media art at Beijing Jiaotong University, and bachelor's degree of arts in design interactions at Lancaster University (first-class honours, Dean's List). I have 10 years of first-hand experience playing more than 200 video games.

This practice-based PhD is situated in Social Design and Design Practice and Methods, and focuses on family conflict around video games. The research explores communication challenges between players and non-players within the family context. I argue that the conflict surrounding video games is a social and cultural issue that is influenced not only by generation differences but also by the varying degrees to which people are exposed to this form of entertainment technology. As a designer and a player, I propose to create three toolkits that explore different perspectives of players and non-players.
