Abstract:
In this talk I will start off by reviewing some historic background on a problem which lead B.E. Johnson to introduce the notion of amenability for Banach algebras in 1972.
This same problem has motivated us (Rick Loy and I)to introduce new notions of amenability. After comparing some general theory of these notions with that of the classical amenability of Johnson, I will talk about amenability of certain Banach algebras related to locally compact groups with respect to our new notions.
