PURE MATHEMATICS SEMINAR

In this talk, I'll introduce a notion of covariant representations of Hecke algebras. In the theory of C^*-dynamical systems, this can allow the Hecke algebra to play the role of the group C^*-algebra C^*(G/H) when H is a Hecke subgroup, but not necessarily a normal subgroup,
of a discrete group G. In particular, I'll show how these covariant representations characterise the quasi-regular representations of crossed products by coactions. Time permitting, I'll also sketch how this theory applies to the problem of extending representations of subgroups.
