Professors Roger Penrose (Oxford) and Kip Thorne (CalTech) will be giving public lectures as part of the 18th International Conference on General Relativity and Gravitation and the 7th Edoardo Amaldi Conference on Gravitational Waves in July 2007 at Darling Harbour.

Prof Thorne will be speaking on Tuesday the 10th July at 7pm on The Warped Side of the Universe: from the big bang to black holes and gravitational waves.

Prof Penrose will be speaking on Friday the 13th July at 7pm on What Happened Before the Big Bang? A Novel Answer to a Profound Cosmological Puzzle. His talk has been generously sponsored by the Faculty of Science at UNSW, the Gordon Godfrey Fund for Theoretical Physics and Dirac Medal Fund. At the beginning of his talk Sir Roger will be presented with the Dirac Medal, which commemorates the visit by nobel laureate P.A.M. Dirac to UNSW in 1975.

Tickets for both talks are available to the public from the conference website under "Conferences Information and Registration"; see the web site for further details.
