In a letter in the Australian's Higher Education Supplement, 19 Sept 2007, James Franklin argues against the views of William Byers that mathematics is hidebound by logic and needs to cut free by embracing ambiguity and the imagination.
Franklin argues that proof is what gives the mathematical imagination a reality check, enabling us to sort true bright ideas from false.
