Ian Sloan, Scientia Professor in the UNSW School of Mathematics and Statistics, has been honoured with the award of Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia. The award was announced in the Queen's Birthday honours of June 9, 2008.

The award was for "service to education through the study of mathematics, particularly in the field of computational mathematics, as an academic, researcher and mentor, and to a range of national and international professional associations."

Ian has been President of the Australian Mathematical Society and of the International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. Further information in his Wikipedia entry.
