Last month saw the latest instalment of the 2012 Utzon Lecture Series, the Australia Institute of Building Annual Address. Guest speaker, the Honourable Sir Anthony Mason AC KBE gave an informative and engaging lecture that offered an insight into the legal perspective of building contracts and legislation.
Although hampered by bad weather the evening proved to be a great success and was attended by over 150 industry contacts, BE students and staff members. The event also served to recognise the contribution and significance the building profession has in the built environment.
Construction Management and Property Program Director Cynthia Wang said; "The event was a great opportunity for staff and students to hear directly from a highly successful and experienced lawyer, and it was very relevant to the construction industry. I noticed many students studying in the construction law course taking notes throughout and I have no doubt that they will have benefitted greatly from the event."
The next instalment of the 2012 Utzon Lecture series will be held on Wednesday 23 May at 7pm. The lecture is titled ‘100th Anniversary of Walter Burley Griffin: Griffin and Canberra’ and will be presented by Built Environment Professor James Weirick.
