On 25 July 2012 Built Environment Dean Professor Alec Tzannes welcomed the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) to the Faculty and congratulated the BE recipients of the CIOB 2012 student awards.  The awards recognise high standards of excellence in construction education in the Australasia region.

Three BE students received awards:

  • Shane Bleyer Undergraduate Award
  • Lauren Player Postgraduate Award
  • Hyemi  Hwang Research Degree Award

We spoke to postgraduate student Lauren Player about her award success.

Lauren said; “I was initially quite apprehensive about taking on postgraduate study with such a demanding job.  However, thanks to the support of a fellow student, Julia Wibowo in the Student Centre and my fantastic lecturers, my time at BE was extremely rewarding.  The course itself was challenging and winning the CIOB award felt like a great acknowledgement of all the hard work I put in.  Based on my experience, I would highly recommend UNSW’s construction project management program to others considering further study in this field.”

Lauren’s nomination was founded on her excellent technical and communication skills, excelling in both semester one and two she received High Distinction for her efforts.

In addition to a very high standard of coursework Lauren was celebrated for her ability to access and manage client’s requirements in the Property and Construction Industry.

Congratulations to Lauren, Shane and Hyemi for this great achievement. For more information on the CIOB Awards, visit the CIOB website
