Brett Biddington, AM
The astrobiology community at UNSW and beyond was delighted to see PhD candidate Brett Biddington recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List, Brett having been made a Member of the Order of Australia. Brett has worked tirelessly for years to publicise Australian space science and technology in both national and international forums. His leadership across a range of space-related activities has assisted in presenting the involved communities as a relevant and an increasingly cohesive component of our academic and national infrastructures. In particular, his work has emphasised the significant strategic implications of Australia's reliance upon space-sourced services and data.
As a serving RAAF officer, Brett had a long background in space engagement at the national level. During recent years he formed and led a company engaged in research often related to space activities. Consequently, he has been involved in supporting and developing all of the main space-related initiatives currently progressing across Australia. We expect his doctoral dissertation to make yet another contribution to the development of a viable Australian space community.
All of us who know Brett consider his award to have been most appropriate and we join in offering our warm congratulations to him.
