The School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of New South Wales is the largest in Australia and a major centre of research in the mathematical sciences. The School has notable strengths in fundamental research right through to cutting edge applications. Its teaching and research activities are carried out in three departments:  Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics and Statistics with activities ranging across multitude of areas including applications in finance, medicine and environmental science.

The Department of Statistics has active research programs in the areas of Bayesian statistics, Monte Carlo methods and other computationally intensive methods, biostatistics and computational biology, statistical ecology, stochastic processes and financial analysis, correlated processes in time, space and longitudinal settings and statistical learning. It conducts a wide range of teaching, including specialist undergraduate and honours statistics, Masters degrees by coursework in Statistics, Biostatistics and Financial Mathematics and PhD supervision.

The Department is seeking to appoint a talented and experienced leader in probability and stochastic processes, including financial mathematics and statistics, to the position of Professor in Statistics. In this position, you will have the opportunity to develop and or review the School’s teaching and research programs in statistical science and provide leadership for the discipline. To be successful you will hold a PhD, or equivalent qualification, in an area relevant to the research areas of the Department, which currently include Biostatistics, Financial Mathematics, Statistical Science, Stochastic Processes or Stochastic Risk Modelling. You will have proven success in attracting research funding; an excellent record on teaching and supervision at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels; a commitment to develop links with other groups on campus engaged in statistical research and teaching, as well as developing strong links with industry; and, evidence of successful academic leadership.

The position is a full-time continuing appointment.
