Following a very busy year including media interviews and the growth of his YouTube channel, the recent announcement that Dr Chris Tisdell has received a Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence is surely the icing on the cake.
Dr Tisdell is a popular Senior Lecturer who joined the School of Mathematics and Statistics in 2002. He is well liked by current and former students at the University who often enthusiastically approach him around the campus for a chat.
Dr Tisdell’s trailblazing work on YouTube was recognised in 2010 when he became the first Australian to be made an official YouTube Partner in Education. His YouTube channel boasts over 7,000 subscribers and upwards of 1.7 million hits. He is also experimenting with a Facebook page, which is teeming with comments from fans of his videos. Professor Merlin Crossley, Dean of the Faculty of Science, recently praised Dr Tisdell's excellent work in the YouTube domain.
While this award is no doubt a huge highlight for Dr Tisdell, he can be forgiven for being a little distracted at the moment - he and his partner Heidi are awaiting the impending birth of their second child, due this week!
A big congratulations to Chris on his award, and all our best wishes for the arrival of his baby boy.
