Salary Level: Research Associate: $78,666 – $84,141 per year (plus 9% employer superannuation contributions and leave loading).
Applications are invited from suitably qualified applicants for postdoctoral research in the area of mathematical modelling of HIV. The topic is part of an ARC Discovery Project, “Mathematical modelling can provide vital information on the effectiveness and practical implementation of microbicides and vaccines against HIV”.
The objective of this research project is to mathematically model the early stages of HIV infection and the impact of microbicides and vaccines. This work is in collaboration with biomedical researchers in the US who are at the forefront of developing and analysing microbicides for HIV. Microbicides can reduce the risk of sexual transmission of HIV in situations where condoms are not used. It is expected that the successful applicant will undertake original research, leading to publications in leading international journals, on this and associated topics.
Essential requirements for the position include a PhD in mathematics or similar quantitative discipline, or being close to completion of the PhD; a demonstrated ability to undertake independent research; excellent computing and communications skills; and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a research team.
This is a fixed term position for one year with the possibility of extension dependent on funding.
