O Week welcome held for new Advanced Mathematics students

An O Week welcome was held this morning for our new Advanced Mathematics students. Around 20 people gathered in the Red Centre to listen to talks by Head of School Bruce Henry, MathSoc President Barton Lee and Professor Jie Du.
Professor Henry extended a warm welcome to the group of students, and provided practical information and advice about program structure and specialisation. He also encouraged the students to attend School events and conferences, and to connect and network with each other. 
Barton Lee informed the students about MathSoc's activities at UNSW, and encouraged them to get involved. Professor Du spoke briefly about tutorial groups and highlighted that the students can rely on him and other School members for support when needed.
A morning tea was held for the students in the staff common room following the talks.
