BE Students Connect with Canowindra

Twenty-five students in the interdisciplinary BEOutThere! Canowindra Connections course visited Canowindra over the 19-22 April weekend, getting to know the town, the heritage rail precinct site (the project focus), and the residents.

Using a vacant shopfront as their base, the students spoke with over 100 individuals and heard presentations from Cabonne Council’s strategic planner, representatives of John Holland/Rail (rail precinct managers), and a special presentation from John Andrews, architect of the town’s celebrated Age of Fishes Museum.

BE's local "project champion" for this course is Architecture alum, Dylan Gower (BArch 1999), who lives in Canowindra and has an architectural practice in Cowra.  The team was in town over the weekend of the town’s International Balloon Festival—an added bonus which gave the students an indication of how local festivals really activate small, rural towns.
