A prize giving ceremony for outstanding mathematics and statistics students was held in the Staff Common Room yesterday.

A casual lunch, attended by award recipients and several School staff members, preceded the prize giving ceremony.

15 prizes were conferred to students for their exceptional performance in courses during 2012. Head of School Bruce Henry welcomed the students in attendance, praising their academic excellence and hard work.

Weatherzone sponsors two prizes, and their Meteorologist Team Leader Josh Fisher was on hand to present the awards to both recipients, Edward McDonald and Michael Johnson.

Wen Jia Liu collected the School of Mathematics and Statistics Prize 1, while both Elisabeth Kava and Hanning Zhang received the George Szekeres Award.

Edward McDonald was a standout student, receiving three awards in total - the School of Mathematics and Statistics Prize 2; the Westpac Banking Corporation prize; and The Weatherzone Prize.

Prize recipients who were unable to attend the ceremony were also ackowledged, with Professor Henry reading out their names and corresponding awards.
