On Thursday 2nd May, eight staff members from Zhejiang University in China visited UNSW's Faculty of Science. The delegation comprised staff from Zhejiang University's Faculty of Science, and Professors from its Departments of Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics.
The purpose of the visit was to help foster understanding and collaboration between the two universities, and to develop student exchange opportunities.
The group commenced its visit with a meeting attended by representatives from the UNSW Schools of Mathematics and Statistics, Chemistry, and Physics. The delegation was then given tours by each of these individual schools.
In the afternoon, the group was escorted to the School of Mathematics and Statistics' headquarters by Prof Jie Du, where an overview of the School's teaching and research activities was provided by Prof Bruce Henry. Dr Chris Tisdell then spoke about the emerging use of online videos as a learning resource in mathematics, and the potential opportunities for Zhejiang University to harness this technology to enhance learning.
The group was next given a tour of the School's computing facilities by A/Prof Robert Womersley, who explained the computer packages used within the School.
Before departing, the Zhejiang staff members expressed their gratitude to the School for its warm welcome of the group.
