SCHOOL OF MATHEMATICS & STATISTICS
FACULTY OF SCIENCE
REF 9604
Salary Level: A$81K -A$87K per year (up to 17% superannuation contributions and leave loading).
Applications are invited from recent PhD graduates for postdoctoral research in the field of non-commutative algebraic geometry. This research forms part of the ARC Discovery Project "Interactions between non-commutative algebra and algebraic geometry".
Recently, moduli spaces have played a very important part in the study of non-commutative algebra, a relationship which in turn has introduced non-commutative methods to study algebraic geometry. Noticeable examples include the McKay correspondence, Fourier-Mukai theory, point schemes in the study of AS-regular algebras, non-commutative Mori contractions etc. In this project, we seek to build on these and discover other interactions between non-commutative algebra and algebraic geometry. The successful applicant is expected to carry out research in this and related areas.
Essential requirements include a PhD in mathematics (applicants close to completion will of course be considered), a demonstrated ability to undertake independent research and excellent communication skills.
This is a fixed term position for two years with a preferred start date of 1 February 2014.
Applications should address the selection criteria listed in the position description in their online application. A research statement should also be included detailing research to date, a research plan and a description of expertise and interest in non-commutative algebra and/or algebraic geometry.
The applicant may be required to undergo pre-employment checks prior to appointment.
The successful applicant will be eligible for travel funds.
Enquiries should be directed to Dr Daniel Chan (e-mail: danielc@unsw.edu.au).
Applications close 31 October 2013
