Salary Level A: $81K – 87K (plus up to 17% employer superannuation contributions plus leave loading)

Applications are invited for postdoctoral research on various topics which are part of the  ARC Discovery Project “New Applications of Additive Combinatorics in Number Theory and Graph Theory”.

The objective of this research project is to advance the interplay between additive combinatorics, number theory and graph theory. The Research Associate will work on using and advancing methods and results of additive combinatorics in addressing number theoretic problems, as well as on finding new applications to several fundamental problems on Cayley graphs. These applications include, but are not limited to, connectivity, random walks, colouring and dominating sets.  Achieving progress on these problems and developing relevant methods of additive combinatorics will be the main goals. It is expected that the successful applicant will undertake original research, solely and in collaboration with Professors Bernard Mans (Macquarie Univ.) and Igor Shparlinski (UNSW Australia), leading to publications in high level international journals, on this and associated topics.

Essential requirements for the position include a PhD in discrete mathematics or number theory, or being close to completion of the PhD; a demonstrated ability to undertake high quality independent research; excellent computing and communication skills; and the ability to work both independently and as a member of a small team.

This is a full-time fixed term position for two years with the possibility of extension dependent on funding.

An applicant may be required to undergo pre-employment checks prior to appointment to this role.

Applications should be made on-line and should systematically address the selection criteria found in the position description in their online application.

Enquiries on the position may be directed to Professor Igor Shparlinski, email: igor.shparlinski@unsw.edu.au

Applications close: 4 April 2014
