Pi Day celebrated in the School
Published on the 14 Mar 2014
Pi Day, an annual celebration commemorating the mathematical constant "Pi", was observed in the School of Mathematics and Statistics today.
Staff enjoyed a pie lunch in the staff common room, while MathSoc hosted a gathering featuring pizza and pie. Statistics Lecturer Joanna Wang spoke to the very large crowd of students about career directions and where maths studies can lead.
Dr Mike Hirschhorn, who wore his Pi shirt for the occasion, produced a special "Pi" edition of his popular Facebook series, Mike's Maths Mysteries. The mystery was solved by MathSoc President, Gary Liang.
Thanks to all who attended the celebrations!
An album of photos from the day can be found on the School Facebook page.
