Tech entrepreneur and UNSW alumnus Dr Ori Allon will advise the School of Computer Science and Engineering on ways to encourage students to explore and incubate their start-up ideas.
Serial technology entrepreneur Dr Ori Allon has been appointed an Adjunct Professor at UNSW's School of Computer Science and Engineering.
The appointment, for an initial three-year term, will see Dr Allon advise the School on ways to encourage students to explore and act on their start-up ideas.
He will also provide advice on how these ideas can be incubated.
The School is already home to a Venture Space for students and recent graduates, and is presently exploring further initiatives to build on the existing culture of innovation.
"I'm honoured to be appointed Adjunct Professor at UNSW," Dr Allon says. "I'm excited to work with the brightest minds in Australia and help promote the entrepreneurial spirit by sharing my vision and experience, and also provide advice to the University on how innovations can be incubated and commercialised."
New York-based Dr Allon graduated with a PhD from the Faculty of Engineering in 2009.
He is best known for selling technology he created to Google and Twitter, and is now Founder and Executive Chairman of Compass, a technology company that empowers people to collaborate on a home search "in a way that is not only smart but also enjoyable". He is also the President of Hapoel Jerusalem Basketball Club.
Head of UNSW's School of Computer Science and Engineering, Associate Professor Maurice Pagnucco, says Dr Allon will "provide strategic advice on skill directions in the start-up space".
"Dr Ori Allon's appointment is a coup for the continuing development of innovative start-up programs within the School.
"Over the past couple of years we've been exploring more opportunities for our students – we really want to foster this innovation culture. It's becoming much more important to society," Pagnucco says.
