The School is thrilled to announce that Dr Chris Tisdell has been announced as the new Associate Dean (Education) of the UNSW Faculty of Science.

Dean of UNSW Science, Professor Merlin Crossley, announced Chris' new position in an email correspondence to Faculty staff today.

Professor Crossley said: "I expect you will know Chris through his innovative teaching in mathematics. Chris’s on-line mathematics book is one of the most successful text books available and the You-Tube videos that Chris and his colleagues, like Norman Wildberger, have created have been accessed millions of times".

It has been a busy couple of years for Chris, who joined the School in 2002 and progressed to Senior Lecturer in 2008.  Chris Teaching Award

He was awarded a 2012 UNSW Vice Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence at a ceremony at UNSW in June 2013. He joined Professor Merlin Crossley last year to speak at a science and maths education symposium in Canberra, led by Chief Scientist Ian Chubb.

Dr Tisdell has also been lauded for his extraordinarily successful online innovations. His popular YouTube channel has experienced phenomenal growth, exceeding over 3.6 million hits, and his e-book, Engineering Mathematics: YouTube Workbook, is now nearing one million dowloads.

He has attracted a steady stream of media attention for his online endeavours.

Chris NYSFDr Tisdell has also been very active in the School community - he chairs the Publicity Committee, and has hosted popular forums for visiting high school students.

Of Dr Tisdell's new position, Head of School Professor Bruce Henry said, "We are very fortunate to have one of our finest teachers and a true leader in innovative online learning and teaching... This is a very important role and I know that Chris will do a wonderful job".
