Last week the public had the chance to hear how 3D Printing and Digital fabrication is shaping the future of making in Australia, at the ‘3D Printing and Digital Fabrication: Don't Believe the Hype?’ panel discussion as part of the Sydney Design Fesitval.

Conversation was led by expert panellists including Dr. Brandon Gien from Good Design Australia, Robert Beson, Director of AR-MA, Dr Miles Park from UNSW Built Environment and Kate Dunn, Lecturer, Faculty of Art and Design, UNSW.

The discussion questioned the role of 3D printing and whether it truly is the third industrial revolution.

Some believe 3D printing and associated digital fabrication technologies will transform the way me make things at home, at work and in the manufacturing environment. During the panel, discussion swayed toward the opinion that 3D printing is still at an early stage of development with designers, hackers and early adopters, who are still figuring out what to do with these digital making tools.
