Dec 2, 2014: Congratulations to ACA's Roy Sach!

Roy Sach, one of Professor Malcolm Walter’s students, has been awarded a PhD for his thesis, Containing space warfare in the early decades of the twenty-first century.  

This thesis demonstrates the possibility, or probability, of warfare occurring in outer space.  It then analyses the destructive capacities of space weapons, both developed and in prospect.  The conclusion that space warfare is likely to involve nuclear and kinetic weapons is disturbing.  Their use would likely intensify orbiting debris to a point where the data and services provided from outer space could cease and not be replaced for periods ranging from a few years to several centuries.  The already widespread and increasing capacity to deploy these weapons changes the conventional perceptions of which nation States are dominant within space and leads to requirements for new approaches, proposed by Sach, to avoid or limit the prospect of space warfare.
