CIES Director, Professor Brian Uy has accepted a Presidential Invitation from Professor David Balmforth to become a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (FICE). The Presidential Invitation is a special route to Fellowship, offered selectively to people of prominence and high reputation in the field of Civil Engineering.
The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) founded in 1818 is the oldest civil engineering institution in the world. The ICE is an independent professional association, headquartered in central London, representing civil engineers and has over 80,000 members in more than 150 countries around the world. Many of the profession’s greatest engineers have served as President of the ICE including Thomas Telford, Robert Stephenson and Sir William Halcrow to name but a few.
Brian has had a long association with ICE since becoming a Chartered Member of ICE (MICE) in 2004. He has served on the Editorial Board of “Structures and Buildings, Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers” as a Corresponding Member from 2003- 2010. Since 2013 Brian has been involved in ICE’s Australian activities, where he serves on the ICE NSW Committee as a representative from the Institution of Structural Engineers, Australia Regional Group.
