Position: Research Associate (Ecological statistics)

About the role

To assist in research developing new tools for predictive modelling of high dimensional count data for the study of ecological communities.  The focus will be on discrete data applications of latent variable models, measurement error models, and graphical models.

About you

  • A PhD in statistics or a related area (such as computer science or bioinformatics).
  • Good knowledge of at least one of R and C++.
  • A sound knowledge of generalised linear modelling and mixed model extensions, linear algebra and multivariate analysis.
  • Ability to work independently, as demonstrated in previous research studies.
  • Experience using latent variable models or measurement error models.

The appointee will be a member of the Eco-Stats group (http://www.eco-stats.unsw.edu.au), under the supervision of Prof David Warton.  Prof Warton is currently a Future Fellow and Chief Investigator on three grants valued at over $1M.  His group is located in Sydney Australia in one of the nation's leading schools for mathematics and statistics research.
