PhD Scholarship Opportunity!

Project description

The School of Psychology at UNSW is offering a three-year full-time PhD scholarship to work on a project “Like Father Like Son: A National Approach to Violence, Antisocial Behaviour and the Mental Health of Men and Boys”.  The project will run for 3 years from 2015 and will bring together a national collaboration of cross-disciplinary researchers, clinicians, policy leaders, and consumer groups to effectively reduce aggression and antisocial behaviour in our communities by improving the engagement of fathers in treatment for their sons’ conduct problems. The project aims to achieve this by training a more skilled mental health workforce, improving fathers’ access to evidence-based treatments, and tailoring interventions to address fathers’ unique needs. This project is expected to contribute to an overall reduction in the economic and personal burden associated with early onset conduct problems, and contribute to a sustainable workforce equipped to handle the future mental health needs of fathers and their sons.

The PhD student will be supervised by the project leader Professor Mark Dadds and may also choose to be co-supervised by one of the five Chief Investigators on the project, depending on the research area. The PhD student will be primarily based at UNSW.

Stipend value

This PhD scholarship will be available for a period of 3 years, with a stipend rate of AUD $25,000 per annum (tax exempt). To be eligible for this scholarship, you must start your PhD full time in early 2015 and study in a field which aligns with the aims of the Project. The final topic of the PhD research will be determined by the successful candidate in collaboration with the research team.

Eligibility

This scholarship requires you to have achieved Honours 1 or equivalent, or Honours 2a or equivalent. Only citizens of Australia or AUS permanent residents can apply.
