For the second time, Art and Design faculties have been ranked globally by the London based QS World University Rankings.

In the recently released 2016 survey UNSW Art & Design ranks 29th in the world, and first in Sydney, Australia, placing us in the top echelon of art and design schools. The rankings encompass 1,367 art and design institutions across 60 different countries.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject assess universities across three broad areas of interest to prospective students: academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact.

UNSW Art & Design performed particularly strongly in the employer reputation category.

Rankings drew on responses from more than 75,000 academics and almost 45,000 graduate employers, alongside the analysis of 28 million research papers and over 110 million citations (Scopus/Elsevier bibliometric database).

UNSW Art & Design’s position is recognition of our extraordinary community of dedicated researchers, educators, practising designers, artists, media creators and innovators, and our extensive network of industry and cultural partners.

A research-intensive, practice-based and industry-engaged centre of excellence, Art & Design is one of 21 UNSW subjects ranked in the world’s top 50.

UNSW Architecture/Built Environment, who partners with UNSW Art & Design on numerous projects, has moved to 19th in the world ranking for architecture. Congratulations to our colleagues.

Overall Australian art, design and architecture schools performed well across the survey while the Royal College of Art (RCA) in London and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US were named as the world’s leading design and architecture schools.
